The HEAD Foundation is pleased to have completed the second run of the workshop Science Communication for STEM Education, for another batch of Philippine educators.
The three-day virtual workshop held on 11, 13, and 15 June 2024 was curated for biology and chemistry high school teachers, and covered the topics of:
- Using Chunking and the ABT narrative structure to explain complex science concepts in an accessible way to students
- Promoting active student learning through distinguishing constructive/stimulating questions and dead-end types, and using declarative language to guide classroom discussion
- Apply audience profiling to gauge student interests, and make use of digital tools to facilitate science communication
- Crafting a 15-minute science communication injection into classroom practice
[Science Communication] may be a good topic for action research. This can really help teachers in the Philippines improve their comprehension of Science and improve student performance in international assessments. Hopefully, this workshop may reach other educators to upskill their teaching strategies.
