The Asian Development Bank (ADB) was conceived in the early 1960s as a financial institution that would be Asian in character and foster economic growth and cooperation in one of the poorest regions in the world. ADB assists its members, and partners, by providing loans, technical assistance, grants, and equity investments to promote social and economic development.

The HEAD Foundation, in partnership with ADB, organised a week-long online Professional Development Programme that delved into how educational systems can reshape school education to make it more robust and resilient in the face of disruptions like COVID-19.

Ateneo de Manila University’s Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) was established in 1997 to lead the University’s work with public schools in line with the mission to close the poverty gap and improve quality of life in the Philippines by improving public basic education in scale.

ACED was a partner of the second run of the Certificate of Educational Studies in Leadership programme which developed the leadership skills of 21 Filipino educational leaders and officials.

The University of Education was established as a faculty of the University of Hue in 1957. It became an official affiliated member of Hue University in 1994. With more than 60 years of establishment and development, University of Education, Hue University has become a prestigious teacher training and research centre in Central Vietnam, Western Highlands as well as the whole country.

The HEAD Foundation is partnering with the University of Education, Hue University, to share strategies and actionable tips on navigating COVID-19 schooling crisis. Mr Tuan A. Hoang is translating the Foundation’s Making HEADway handbooks into Vietnamese to reach educators in the country.

Particularly, its five specialties Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & Gastroenterologic Surgery, Ear, Nose & Throat, Nephrology, and Urology were ranked No. 1 in the country. Based in Rochester, Minnesota, Mayo Clinic has close to 20 hospitals in the US and treats more than one million patients annually from all 50 states locally and nearly 140 countries worldwide.  

The HEAD Foundation is currently supporting multi-centre clinical research on the efficacy of Tuina in managing chronic lower back pain, involving medical experts from Mayo Clinic, the Singapore General Hospital  and the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University in China.

meriSTEM@NIE Singapore is a multi-centric education, research and industry centre with the to enhance the quality of STEM literacy in Singapore through cross-disciplinary partnerships in research, teaching, and outreach so that future generations of educators, learners, and citizens are able to harness relevant STEM knowledge and skills in addressing current and emerging challenges for self and others.

At the Foundation’s inaugural Regional STEM Symposium 2019 co-organised with ADB, founding members of meriSTEM@NIE shared their expertise on constructing a comprehensive STEM curriculum and teaching framework with seven developing Asian countries.

As an institute within a world-class research university, they play a key role in the preparation of teachers and in the provision of teacher professional and school leadership development programmes.

The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) was established by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) in 1966 to respond to the needs of inclusive and sustainable agriculture and rural development.

SEARCA and The HEAD Foundation co-organised a leadership development programme that is designed as a capacity building workshop for administrators, middle and senior managers, and academic leaders of HEIs in Southeast Asia.

SECG (Singapore  is a Singapore-based group of highly experienced education policy-makers, practitioners and trainers who between them cover the whole spectrum from early-childhood education, primary, secondary, tertiary and TVET, and have international consulting experience. In particular, SECG has worked in Asia and the Middle East in education reform, teacher preparation and professional development.

SECG has worked with The HEAD Foundation in the design of the following programmes:

The Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is the first and largest hospital in Singapore. With five National Specialist Centres co-located on its campus, SGH prides itself in its high quality multi-disciplinary approach to treatment and research to bring holistic care to its patients. Amongst the many accolades it receives, SGH is the largest teaching hospital in Asia to have achieved Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation in 2005, and was also the first in Asia to achieve the Magnet Recognition in 2010 for nursing excellence awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Every year, the SGH Campus caters to over one million patients.

The First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University is part of Jinan University, a public research university based in Guangzhou, China. The Hospital is an AAA public general hospital that focuses on medical treatment and training, scientific research and rehabilitation services. Amongst others, the Hospital is recognised as the highest AAA credit grade hospital among Guangzhou’s social security-designated medical institutes and a National Excellent Hospital of High Quality Nursing Care Service. From 2010 to 2014, the Hospital was ranked one of the Top 10 Hospitals in Guangzhou in the China Health Annual Review.

It comprises two institutions: The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the International Development Association. The World Bank is a component of the World Bank Group.

The World Bank and The HEAD Foundation designed a professional learning programme on enhancing Indonesian teacher education. It is specifically for Mathematics and Science teacher trainers and will critically examine current arrangements in the delivery and effectiveness of Professional Pedagogical Training Programme for teachers (Pendidikan Profesi Guru, PPG).

The University of Nottingham is a public research university in England. It is a pioneering university that provides an exceptional research-led education (TEF Gold), and an outstanding student experience.

The HEAD Foundation and the University of Nottingham’s Centre for Research in Educational Leadership and Management are working together to address the relevant issues and challenges in educational leadership in Southeast Asia. The TransformLEAD@21 programme is the collaborative partnership between these two key principal partners. This pilot project represented in this initiative is the Certificate in Education Studies in Leadership (CESL).

The ASEAN Focus Group (AFG Venture Group) is an Asia and Australia based corporate advisory and consulting firm with over 25 years’ experience in creating alliances, relationships and transactions in Australia, South East Asia and India. AFG Venture Group is acknowledged as a principle partner in the delivery of inaugural ASEAN Australia Education Dialogue.

The Dialogue connected key education and training stakeholders as well as business planners and thought leaders from Australia and ASEAN. It reflects the ASEAN-Australian commitment to a long-term education partnership informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030.

In 2019, The HEAD Foundation supported the panel discussion on “Strengthening Quality Assurance and Developing Global Standards in ELT Centre Management in ASEAN and Australia”.

The Center for International Higher Education (CIHE) at Boston College promotes the belief that an international perspective is needed to foster enlightened policies and practices in higher education. With this mission, CIHE was founded in 1995 to advance knowledge about the complex realities of higher education in the contemporary world through its research, publications, training programs, and advisory activities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was inked between The HEAD Foundation and CIHE in January 2016. Both parties are collaborating on a newsletter entitled “Higher Education in Southeast Asia and Beyond” (HESB) to fill a gap in periodicals in the field of higher education research in Southeast Asia.

The DBS-NUS Social Venture Challenge Asia is an Asia-wide competition for social enterprises, open to any member of the public. Organised by NUS Enterprise and DBS Foundation, the Challenge aims to identify and support innovative new ideas and existing social ventures that have the potential to generate positive, scalable and sustainable social impact.

The HEAD Foundation proudly supported SVCA in 2017 and 2018, sponsoring the Education sectoral cash prize of S$20,000. THF also collaborated with NUS Enterprise and DBS Foundation to publish a special issue of THink, featuring winners that emerged from the Challenge.

Dementia Singapore was formed in 1990 as the ‘Alzheimer’s Disease Association’ to better serve Singapore’s growing dementia community, increase awareness about dementia, and reduce the stigma surrounding the condition.

As Singapore’s leading Social Service Agency (SSA) in specialised dementia care, Dementia Singapore aims to advocate for the needs of people living with dementia and their families; empower the community through capability-building, knowledge and consultancy; and deliver quality, person-centred care innovations.

Dementia Singapore is registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee (UEN No. 202111519K), listed as a Charity and is recognised as an Institution of a Public Character (IPC).

They are a research institute which conducts relevant policy-oriented studies in the field of higher education to assist in the development of higher education to advance research, teaching and publication in higher education institutions.

The HEAD Foundation supported, and participated in the 6th Global Higher Education Forum 2018 (GHEF 6.0) held from 8 to 10 October 2018 in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The three-day event was organised by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

KnowledgeDOT is a Singapore-based organisation set up by Valerie Siew and Amarjeet Kaur, former staff of Singapore’s National Library Board, to build capacity of librarians of the Myanmar public and school libraries.

The HEAD Foundation partnered with KnowledgeDOT in 2018 to support literacy among children, including out-of-school children, in Myanmar. The project developed the capacity of librarians to develop and run children programmes and services that instil early literacy skills.

Their solution has proven to increase student motivation and engagement, helping over 100 schools achieve higher academic performance in 2016.

The HEAD Foundation supported Dr Paul Apivat Hanvongse from Learn Education in 2017 to test a fully integrated, blended-learning English language solution in Thailand.

Vietnam hosts the SEAMEO Regional Training Center (SEAMEO RETRAC) in Ho Chi Minh City, as one of the 15 SEAMEO Centers in Southeast Asia. In February 1999, the SEAMEO Council approved the Center’s adoption of educational management as its core specialisation.

The HEAD Foundation supported the International Conference 2018 on Leadership and Management in Higher Education in a Globalised World: Innovations and Best Practices, organised by SEAMEO RETRAC.

The mission of the Society of Floating Solutions (Singapore) is to facilitate the application of scientific principles and proven offshore technologies to the design, engineering and construction of floating space solutions to enhance the quality of human life and address issues of contemporary environmental issues in ways that are eco-friendly and sustainable.

The Foundation supported the Society of Floating Solutions (Singapore)’s Inaugural World Conference on Floating Solutions in April 2019. Experts from around the globe presented on and discussed on ocean space utilisation.

In 2017, The HEAD Foundation provided a grant to Prof Lim Cher Ping from the Education University of Hong Kong to build the capacities of Cambodian universities for blended learning to enhance the quality and efficiency of education.

The International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI) brings together a growing community of researchers, educators and policy-makers every year to discuss and debate ideas, evidence, practices and strategies that help make schools and other educational institutions more effective for all those that they serve. ICSEI also offers opportunities to participate in active ongoing networks of professional interest, publications and website communication such as the ICSEI Digest and ICSEI Express.

The HEAD Foundation supported and participated in the ICSEI 2018 conference from 8 to 12 January 2018 in Singapore.
