Braving the ash-laden air and the impending eruption of Taal volcano, 17 educational leaders from six countries attended the Leadership Development Program for Higher Education Institutions.

The five-day programme returned for a second run from 13 to 17 January 2020. Co-organised by The HEAD Foundation and Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), it aimed to enhance the leadership skills of leaders of Southeast Asian higher education institutions to lead and respond effectively to contemporary local and regional challenges.

Dr N Varaprasad, the programme director, was joined by trainers The HEAD Foundation Fellow Dr Paul Teng, National Institute of Education International;  A/P Rebekah Lim, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS); Dr Calvin Chan, SUSS; Dr Felix Tan, University of New South Wales; Dr Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya, University of Nueva Caceres; and Dr Supachai Yavaprabhas, Chulalongkorn University.

Through nine modules, the participants learnt to identify, analyse and develop strategies to solve cross-cutting issues against the backdrop of a rapidly changing industry and workplace. They were also treated to an institutional visit where they saw educational leadership and management in action.

After discussing principles and best practices in leadership and management in higher education at length, participants prepared a strategic agenda for their institutions, proposing actions to address their priority needs and current challenges.

The HEAD Foundation is pleased to continue our partnership with SEARCA, and we look forward to empowering more educational leaders and improving education in the region.
