Globalisation, urbanisation and the quest for sustainable development has thrown major challenges at policy makers. This talk addresses the objective of creating “Knowledge Scapes” as a model for development, specifically through the design and implementation of “smart cities”. The research question examines whether it is possible that less developed societies may learn and profit from the stories and lessons of the developed economies. The talk concludes by underscoring the key role of benchmarking knowledge policies and learning from good practices in order to create Smart Cities in Asia and leverage such “Knowledge Scapes” in order to promote development.
