Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are becoming increasingly urgent challenges in ageing societies worldwide affecting not only individuals and families, but also healthcare systems and social support structures. How can modern neuroscience and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) work together to support healthier ageing and cognitive wellbeing?

On 13 May 2026, The HEAD Foundation hosted a talk on “Rethinking Brain Health: An Integrative Perspective from Traditional Chinese Medicine” as part of our Dialogues series for invited audience from the healthcare sector. The event was moderated by Dr Lim Shih Hui from SingHealth and featured Dr Wang Chaozheng, a senior TCM practitioner and educator from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

Dr Wang then discussed dementia as a modern lifestyle disease linked to stress, sleep disruption, emotional imbalance, sedentary lifestyles, and excessive technological stimulation. He also explored dementia, brain health, and preventive care from both biomedical and TCM perspectives. Dr Wang demonstrated a number of tuina manipulation techniques aimed at improving brain health.
